Alex Dunlop started his insurance career in Halifax in 2003, the same month that Hurricane Juan made landfall. The self-professed insurance nerd has since vowed to make insurance fun, focusing on the more complicated aspects of insurance. Having presented to fish boat captains in their kitchens, to boardrooms of Fortune 500 companies, he has seen much of what the Canadian insurance industry has to offer. Working for one of the world’s largest brokerages for over 10 years gave him exposure to some of the most complex businesses in Canada today, including several global, publically traded enterprises.
Alex moved to Edmonton from Halifax in 2012 with his wife and three sons, setting off on a journey that not only solidified western roots, but also gave him new perspectives on Canadian business, risk management and alternative approaches to insurance. Now with Alberta’s largest insurance brokerage, Lloyd Sadd, Alex is focused on manufacturing, real estate and niche businesses where the risks are unique and the business model is uncommon. When he is not researching new solutions for risk management, you can find him with his family either at a rink cheering on his boys or in the mountains chasing after them as they tear up the slopes.
